This policy explains the browser storage mechanisms CaribooValley uses, why we use them, and how you can control them. Last updated: May 2026.
Cookies are small text files that a website places in your browser when you visit. They allow the site to remember certain information across page loads and sessions — for example, whether you have already confirmed your age or accepted a consent prompt. Cookies are not programs, cannot carry viruses, and cannot access other files on your device.
In addition to traditional cookies, modern browsers offer two other storage mechanisms that websites can use: sessionStorage and localStorage. Both store key-value pairs in the browser rather than as cookie files, but they behave differently: sessionStorage is cleared when the browser tab is closed; localStorage persists until explicitly cleared by the user or the website. CaribooValley uses both of these in preference to cookies for its essential functionality, because they do not travel back to our server with each request — they exist purely on the client side.
This Cookie Policy covers all three storage types: traditional cookies, sessionStorage, and localStorage, because all three can be relevant to your privacy and browser experience.
CaribooValley uses a minimal set of storage entries. The table below summarises each one.
The two essential storage entries listed above — wx_age_ok and wx_ck_ok — are set without requiring explicit consent because they are strictly necessary for the platform to function as disclosed to you.
wx_age_ok is written to sessionStorage the moment you press "I am 18+ — Enter" on the age-verification gate. Without it, the age gate would re-appear on every page you load during your session, making the platform unusable. The value stored is the string "1" — no personal information. Because it is in sessionStorage, it is deleted automatically when you close the tab.
wx_ck_ok is written to localStorage when you make a choice on the cookie consent banner — either "Accept All" or "Essential Only". Without it, the consent banner would appear on every visit, which would be disruptive and not reflect your stated preference. The value stored is the string "1". You can remove this entry at any time by clearing your browser's localStorage (instructions in Section 6 below), which will cause the consent banner to reappear on your next visit.
Neither of these entries is transmitted to our servers. They exist purely in your browser and are not used to track or profile you.
CaribooValley uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors interact with the platform in aggregate. Analytics cookies are only set if you explicitly choose "Accept All" on the cookie consent banner. If you choose "Essential Only", no analytics cookies are set and your visit is not tracked by GA4.
Our implementation uses Google Consent Mode (GCM) with all consent signals defaulting to denied. This means that even if the GA4 script loads on the page, it does not set cookies or send data to Google until you grant consent. The GCM wait_for_update is set to 700 milliseconds — if no consent signal is received within that window, the denied defaults remain in effect.
When analytics consent is granted, GA4 sets _ga (a random client identifier, persistent for 2 years) and _ga_[ID] (a session marker, persistent for 2 years). These cookies are scoped to our domain and are not accessible to other domains. The data they generate is processed by Google LLC under our Data Processing Agreement. Google does not use the data we send for its own advertising purposes under that agreement. For more information on how Google processes this data, see Google's partner site policy.
Beyond Google Analytics (described above), CaribooValley does not intentionally load any third-party tracking scripts, advertising networks, social-media pixels, retargeting pixels, or affiliate tracking systems. We do not partner with advertising exchanges or data brokers.
We load third-party resources from CDN hosts for performance: Bootstrap CSS from cdnjs.cloudflare.com, Google Fonts from fonts.googleapis.com, and Font Awesome from cdnjs.cloudflare.com. These CDN requests may cause those services to log your IP address in their own server logs — this is a standard function of serving files over the internet. We do not control those logs and cannot speak to Cloudflare's or Google's own privacy practices; please review their respective privacy policies directly. To our knowledge, these CDNs do not set cookies in the context of serving static CSS and font files.
You have several ways to control or remove the cookies and storage entries used by CaribooValley.
Cookie consent banner: When you first visit the platform, a banner appears asking for your cookie preference. Selecting "Essential Only" means no analytics cookies will be set. You can clear your wx_ck_ok localStorage entry (instructions below) to re-trigger the banner and change your preference at any time.
Browser settings: All major browsers allow you to view, manage, and delete cookies and localStorage entries. In Chrome: Settings > Privacy and security > Cookies and other site data. In Firefox: Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data. In Safari: Settings > Privacy > Manage Website Data. In Edge: Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Manage and delete cookies.
Browser extensions: Privacy-focused browser extensions (such as uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger, or similar) can block analytics scripts at the network level, preventing GA4 from loading regardless of your consent setting. CaribooValley functions normally if GA4 is blocked.
Incognito / Private browsing: Using the platform in a private browsing window means sessionStorage and localStorage are automatically cleared when the window is closed, and analytics cookies set during that session are discarded. This is a convenient way to use CaribooValley without any storage persisting after your session.
We may update this Cookie Policy when we change the storage mechanisms or third-party services we use. We will update the "Last updated" date in the sub-hero section above when changes are made. If we introduce new analytics or tracking tools that require consent, we will update both this policy and the consent banner before deploying them.
We encourage you to review this Cookie Policy periodically, particularly before accepting or rejecting analytics cookies. Our commitment is to maintain the consent-first approach described here — analytics data will never be collected without your explicit permission.
Questions about our cookie practices can be directed to our team. We will respond within 30 calendar days.
